The Red Fort (Lal Qil’ah), is a fort built by Rajput King, Prithviraj Chauhan in 17th-century. It is located in Old Delhi (Delhi, India). Mughal Emperors used it as their residence after defeat of Rajputs.
Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan used it as the palace for his new capital, Shahjahanabad.
The Yamuna River flows beside the fort fills the moats which surround most of the walls of the fort.
The Red fort was started building in 1638 and completed on 1648. It had many developments after its reconstruction by Shah Jahan. Aurangzeb’s development was significant after Shah Jahan and later developed by later Mughal Emperors.
The Red fort occupies 254.767 acres. It is surrounded by 2.4 kilometres of defence walls. The fort consists Important structures like Diwan-i-Aam, Diwan-i-Khas, Nahr-i-Behisht, Zenana, Moti Masjid, Hayat Bakhsh Bagh, etc.
