Qutub Minar (Qutb Minar), the tallest minar in India, is actually an ancient Islamic Monument. It is mostly inscribed with Arabic Inscriptions but consist an Iron pillar inscribed with some Bramhi inscriptions. It is located in Delhi, Capital of India.
The tower is 72.5 metres (237.8 ft) high having a base with diameter 14.3 metres which narrows to 2.7 meters at top storey and includes 379 stairs. It is made up of Red Sandstone. It is surrounded by ancient structures combinely knowa as Qutub Complex.
Its construction was started in 1192 AD by Qutub-ud-din Aibak, viceroy of Mohammed Ghori, to celebrate the victory of Mohammed Ghori over Prithviraj Chauhan, a Rajput King. And later completed by his successor Iltutmish (a.k.a. Altamash) and much later added by Firoj Shah Tughlaq, a Tughlaq Sultan of Delhi in 1368 AD.
It was India’s most visited monument in 2006 with 3.9 million visitors, ahead of Taj Mahal, which had only 2.5 million visitors.
